Visitors
The warm and welcoming community at St. Michael Lutheran Church is excited to meet you. Whether you’re looking for a church home, visiting from out of town, or just exploring your faith, we are happy to have you join for a Sunday service. Here’s a quick overview of what to expect when you visit.
Plan Your Visit
St. Michael Lutheran Church is located at the corner of Whiteford Center
Road and Temperance Road in Whiteford township in Ottawa Lake, Michigan.
We are just four miles north of the Ohio border and conveniently located
near Exit 3 on US-23.
We have two worship services each Sunday. Our traditional service begins at 8:30 a.m., and our contemporary service begins at 10:45 a.m. Both services last about an hour. Visit the worship page to learn more.
You’ll find people wearing a range of clothing from suits and dresses to jeans and T-shirts, with the traditional service being slightly more formal and the contemporary service being slightly more casual. You can dress however you feel most comfortable for worship.
Parking and Arrival
Our parking lot has entrances from both Whiteford Center Road and Temperance Road. Reserved parking for visitors and the elderly during worship is available along Whiteford Center Road near the main entrance. Accessible, disability parking spaces are located near the main entrance and near the north entrance at the rear of the building.
Enter the building from the main entrance under the overhang or the north entrance at the rear of the building. When you enter from the main entrance, you’ll be in the Gathering Room and the Sanctuary will be on your right. If you enter from the north entrance, follow the hallway along the gym to the Gathering Room and the Sanctuary will be on your left. There is an area to hang coats to the right of the Sanctuary doors.
What to Expect
Most people begin making their way to the Sanctuary about five minutes before the service begins. At the back of the Sanctuary, an usher will hand you a bulletin with the order of worship and announcements. Ushers can also answer any questions you may have.
We offer support to help families have a positive experience during worship. Activity bags are available for children to use in the Sanctuary. A room at the back of the sanctuary provides parents space to attend to the needs of their babies and toddlers while still being able to see and hear the service. During our contemporary worship service, childcare is offered for toddlers, preschool and early elementary kids in the nursery. Visit the Children and Youth page for more information.
During the worship service, there will be music with congregational singing, corporate confession and declaration of forgiveness, prayer, a Bible reading, and a message proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ. Individuals may share prayer requests during the service by passing a completed prayer card found in pews to an usher or by raising a hand when prompted by the pastor before prayer. On the first and third Sundays of the month, our worship services include communion.
After the service, join us in the Gathering Room for fellowship. Coffee and snacks are provided. This is a great opportunity to get to know the people of St. Michael.
